Electronic Fault Diagnostics

Diagnostic Process

Modern vehicles are extremely complex and can be expensive to fix when things go wrong. Even more so if your mechanic/technician gets a diagnosis wrong and replaces the wrong parts only for the fault to still be there. Swapnositics by untrained technicians is even more expensive, so a thorough process is required to ensure the quickest and most cost effective path to successful repair.

Although a scan tool is needed to diagnose and repair electrical faults with modern vehicles, it is only a tool to help us start looking in the right (or sometimes wrong) direction. The common misconception is that we can plug a scan tool in and it will tell us what is wrong with the vehicle, unfortunately, this is far from the truth. Once a scan tool is plugged in, we can retrieve and clear stored fault codes, look at live sensor data and drive actuators via the scan tool, or perform pin point tests with a lab scope, this all helps in diagnosing the actual fault.

On the other hand, after plugging the scan tool in, there is often no codes, or sometimes codes that can point you in the wrong direction if you are unfamiliar, inexperienced or don’t have the right training or data at hand.

We are very experienced and passionate about diagnostics and invest heavily in the training, tooling and data sources needed to stay up to date with modern vehicles. We are committed to being the best we can at electronic fault finding and diagnostics, over the years we have evolved our skills and continue to tweak our processes and testing techniques to ensure we reach a correct and efficient diagnosis as quick as possible for the customer.

We are members of the highly regarded invite only YES! Automotive Diagnostic Network of New Zealand and are committed to on-going training and up-skilling to keep us up to date with the latest technology. This saves you time and money because having highly trained and skilled technicians right here on your doorstep means you don’t have to go out of the area for specialist diagnostics of electrical faults.
