Electronic Fault Diagnostics

Diagnostic Process

Modern vehicles are complex and can be expensive to fix when things go wrong. Even more so if your mechanic/technician gets a diagnosis wrong and replaces the wrong parts only for the fault to still be there. Swapnositics by untrained technicians is even more expensive, so a thorough process is required to ensure the quickest and most cost effective path to successful repair.

Although a scan tool is needed to diagnose and repair electrical faults with modern vehicles, it is not the magic bullet that many people hope or think it is. The common misconception is that we can plug a scan tool in and it will tell us exactly what is wrong with the vehicle, unfortunately, this is far from the truth. Once a scan tool is plugged in, there is often no codes, or sometimes codes that can point you in the wrong direction if you are unfamiliar, inexperienced or don’t have the right training or data at hand.

We are very experienced at diagnostics and invest heavily in the training, tooling and data sources needed to stay up to date with modern vehicles. We are extremely passionate about being the best we can at electronic fault finding and diagnostics, over the years we have evolved and continue to tweak our process to ensure we reach and correct and efficient diagnosis as quick as possible for the customer.

Our diagnostic process will  involves confirming the customers concern, checking the basic mechanical and electrical systems, connecting a scan tool and checking codes from your vehicle’s on board computers, this may or may not reveal logged fault codes to point us in the direction of the system with a fault. Many times there are no codes present and we need to do manual testing. When a code is present, most times we still need to interpret the codes and live data and make decisions whether further diagnosis and testing is needed in the circuit or system or if we have nailed the fault down. We are able to use an automotive scope (oscilloscope) for extremely fast and accurate measurements of complex electrical systems to help us diagnose faults.

We believe that constant evolution and improvement is required to stay current in any field, we have invested and continue to invest in the training, tools, information and back up needed to keep us ahead in this ever increasing field of automotive servicing.

We are members of the highly regarded invite only YES! Automotive Diagnostic Network of Australasia and are committed to on-going training and up-skilling of all our staff to keep us up to date with the latest technology. This saves you time and money because having highly trained and skilled technicians right here on your doorstep means you don’t have to go out of the area for diagnostics of electrical faults.
